Diaspora Summit slated for June 2010 on Montserrat

BRADES, Montserrat – The Office of the Chief Minister is preparing to host a Diaspora Summit June 21 to 23, 2010. 

According to Permanent Secretary Elijah Silcott the vision for the consultation is to present nationals living abroad with an opportunity to become aware of developments on Montserrat and plans for incorporating the Diaspora in the island’s future growth. 

The three-day consultation will include a tour and presentations from various government and private sector leaders on the island’s economy.  Panel discussions will be held on incentives for Montserratians returning home, private sector investment and stimulating an entrepreneurial spirit. The event coincides with the Queen’s Birthday parade, scheduled for June 21. 

There are more than 10 active associations of Montserratians in the UK, US, Canada and the Caribbean. Each is expected to send at least one representative to participate in the consultation.
